Cider is a thirst-quenching drink offering refreshment – normally without too much alcohol. GEA Liquid Processing has the experience and know-how to provide all the components involved in the cider production process.

Cider is a low-alcoholic beverage produced from the fermented juice of apples and pears. The process used in the production of cider is identical to that used in the production of beer. This means that the equipment used to produce beer can also be used to produce cider. Through the same process of cooking, sieving, heating and cooling, filtering and carbonating, cider is produced.

Both alcoholic and low-alcoholic cider is available. The alcoholic variety, also known as English Cider, typically has an alcohol content of 8.5%, while the “non-alcoholic” cider has an alcohol content of around 1.5%. While apples and pears are the most common fruits used in the production of cider, other fruits such as berries can also be used.

The Market
Within Scandinavia, the market for the low-alcoholic cider is quite large, while the high-alcoholic cider only has a very specific market - especially in the UK. The low-alcoholic cider has a more soft drink-like taste to it, making it more popular for those who enjoy the fresh taste, but do not want the alcohol.
